District Champs 2007

The River Road Wildcats won district tonight with an overall record of 4-2 in district. The guys (coaches included) were super excited. The second picture is a really sweet one. If you look closely, you can see Abby in her daddy's arms during the team prayer. Usually, she is fighting to get down, but tonight she was already in her pajamas and ready for bed so was happy to be held. WAY TO GO CATS!

March of Dimes

If you are not familiar with March of Dimes, it is an organization designed to help prevent premature births and to help those babies that are born prematurely. While Abby Grace was a full-term healthy baby, I feel strongly that this is one of those organizations worth supporting.

Just yesterday, while we were at the doctor's office, I was visiting with a mother with a tiny baby in an infant carrier. As always, I commented on how sweet and cute she was (I have learned that you can never receive too many compliments on your baby!). The mother then volunteered the information that her daughter was a preemie, just under 2 pounds when she was born, and is now a year old. I assumed this little girl was probably 3-4 months old when I first noticed her. While her limbs were like toothpicks and she is technically behind developmentally, she is generally healthy. What a miracle!

Jeremy, Abby, and I have decided to participate in the March of Dimes Walk (WalkAmerica) in Amarillo this Saturday. I always walked with my school when we lived in Midland and feel that it is something I should keep doing. Plus, I would like to teach Abby the importance of helping other people. One Year Check-up...Check

Abby Grace went to the doctor for her one year check-up today. She weighs 20.2 pounds (50%) and is 30 1/2 inches long (90%). She received an excellent report across the board, but her doctor was especially impressed with her ability to snap her fingers...yes, really snap her fingers. The only bad part about the visit was that she got 3 shots. Ouch!

Other accomplishments: Abby is walking everywhere now; she seldom finds the need to crawl anymore. She is learning the motions to "Itsy Bitsy Spider." She can sign "more," "finished," "eat," "milk," "book," and is learning "dog." Mind you, she is not completely accurate on all of these yet but is getting closer. She can say, "Ma," "Da," and "Uhuh" (uh-oh). Our favorite trick of the hour, though, is her ability to use the potty. I will spare you the details, but will just say that it initially happened by chance and has become habit. Then, today, she initiated it herself! We are not ready for real potty training yet though...we don't even have a "little potty." HA!

Tornado Chaser

Yippee! Do we get to follow Doppler Dave?

If you know Jeremy and me, you know that we are crazy about severe weather. Therefore, by default, Abby is also. This evening, there were tornadic storms within about 30 miles of Amarillo. So like all wise parents, we loaded Abby into her carseat and took off for a closer look. (We really only drove to the edge of town so that houses and buildings were not obscuring our view). Not to worry, though, we made it home well before any weather hit Amarillo.

Visitors

Our friends, Jamie and Kevin, and their sweet little boy Kolton came to visit Friday evening. We had every intention of taking the kids picture together when they were still dressed, but obviously forgot until they were both asleep and Jamie and Kevin were leaving. Oh well, sleeping babies are sweet also.

Lil' Slugger

The River Road Wildcats are sitting in first in district right now. Abby enjoys going to the games and cheering for the players, but she especially loves going out on the field with her daddy after the game. If you can't tell she is holding a baseball bat in this picture.

Happy Easter

What a fun Easter I had! The Easter bunny hopped through my house early yesterday morning. Mommy and Daddy said he had to hide eggs inside because his nose was cold and he wanted to warm it by the fire. So much for Easter being somewhat warm. Anyway, I delighted in hunting for the eggs and placing them in my new basket. The bunny even hid one egg in a plant...and I found it all by myself!!! I hope you also had a nice Easter.

Beautiful Bluebonnets

During my Spring Break, Abby and I were able to go to Emory for a few days. The weather was gorgeous for most of the trip so we were able to spend a lot of time outside enjoying the sites and sounds of spring, and of course playing in Grandpa's garden. One afternoon, we took Abby to a bluebonnet patch near my parents' house and snapped picture after picture. Because everybody knows that every Texas baby must have their picture taken in bluebonnets! :)
